DIPLOMA COURSE IN

JUNGIAN THEORY & PRACTICE OCTOBER 2023

Introduction

'One's anxiety always points out one's task,' Jung writes. 'If you escape it you have lost a piece of yourself, and a most problematic piece at that, with which the Creator of things was going to experiment in His unforeseeable ways.'

Jung did not pathologize the psyche. He knew that its compulsions, obsessive fantasies, and the 'forbidden spaces of our perversions' were the parts where the numinous bits of the true self were also to be found. By understanding the illusion of control behind anorexia, the desperation for the glue of psychic structure behind drug addiction, the expression of psychotic aspects through somatic delusions, and the protective function of autistic and schizoid defences, we can begin to integrate those split-off paths that constitute our earliest wounds and begin to knit the psyche into a unified whole.

  • Anorexia
